American Nathan Adrian’s swimming career has been one defined by excellence, resilience, and leadership.

Adrian stepped onto the international scene at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, winning gold as a prelim swimmer in the now legendary 4x100m freestyle relay. From there, he steadily became the cornerstone of the American men’s sprint corps, winning eight Olympic medals over the course of his career, including five golds, a silver and two bronze medals.

At the 2012 Games in London, Adrian earned his Olympic gold in an individual event in the 100m free by the narrowest of margins, .01. He also won gold in the 4x100m medley relay and silver in the sprint free relay. In 2016, he won golds in both the 4x100m free relay and 4x100m medley relay in Rio and captured bronze medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

On the long course World Championships stage from 2009 to 2019, Adrian won 16 medals overall – 10 gold, four silver and two bronze. He also made a big impact for the U.S. at the Pan Pacific Championships, winning six gold, two silver and one bronze.

Beyond international competition, Adrian starred at the University of California — Berkeley, where he became a five-time NCAA individual champion and graduated with honors in Public Health.

In September of 2018, Adrian married his wife, Hallie, in Rutherford, California and the couple now have three young daughters, Parker, Brooklyn and Paige.

Adrian’s career was not without adversity. In January 2019, he announced on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery later that year and has since been cancer free. Adrian has become an advocate for cancer awareness, encouraging men to focus on their health.
