Leo Donath was credited by the late Max Ritter with being the administrative genius behind the FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur). As its Honorable Secretary, Donath ran the world swimming organization for thirteen years from 1928 until his death in 1941. During this same period, Donath also served as Honorary Secretary of the European Swim League (Ligue European de Natation) where he was founder and member from its inception in 1926.
