FOR THE RECORD: OLYMPIC GAMES: 1906 gold (high dive).
Gottlob Walz won the high dive at the 1906 Games in Athens. In doing so, he defeated Hoffman of Germany who had previously silvered at the 1904 St. Louis Games. The 1906 Olympics was the only time the Olympic games were held other than on the quadrennial year beginning in 1896. The Greeks had planned to run the Games at Athens every four years halfway between the traveling quadrennial but 1906 was the first and last successful effort to have Athens revived as a permanent Olympic site.
