FOR THE RECORD: As President of Great Britain’s Amateur Swimming Association he called a meeting at 1908 London Olympics to start the FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur), international governing body for aquatic sports.  Served as Secretary/Treasurer of FINA until 1928 and Honorary President until his death in 1949.

George Hearn was the father of organized world swimming.  As president of Great Britain’s Amateur Swimming Association he called a meeting at the 1908 London Olympics to start the Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (F.I.N.A.), then and still the International Swimming governing body.
