A five-time Paralympian competing in the S5 classification, Beatrice Hess boasts one of the most decorated careers in Paralympic history, amassing an extraordinary 25 medals, including 20 gold.
From her debut at the 1984 Paralympic Games—where she captured four gold medals—to her final appearance in 2004, she established a legacy of dominance across all five stroke disciplines—including freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and individual medley events. Her performances at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Games were particularly remarkable, as she swept gold in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle 200m IM in both Games. She also took gold in the 4×50 medley relay in 2000 and silver in the 4×50 free relay in 1996.
Beyond the Paralympic stage, Hess claimed seven World titles and 18 European Championship titles, making her the most decorated French Paralympic swimmer in history. Her consistency, versatility, and competitive spirit set her apart over two decades of international competition.
Hess served as a flagbearer for France at both the 1996 and 2000 Paralympic Games, a testament to her leadership and stature within the global Paralympic community.
