Few coaches in the history of swimming have demonstrated the sustained excellence and global impact of Gregg Troy. A 2025 Honor Coach inductee into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, Troy’s career spans decades of leadership at every level of the sport, from club and college programs to the Olympic Games.
Troy first built his legacy at The Bolles School in Florida, where he transformed the program into a national powerhouse. Over two decades, he guided both boys’ and girls’ teams to multiple state and national titles while developing elite athletes and Olympic medalists such as Anthony Nesty, Gustavo Borges, and Martin Zubero. His success made Jacksonville a global hub for swimming excellence.
In 1998, Troy took over at the University of Florida, where his impact only grew. During his 20-year tenure, he led the Gators to eight SEC championships and a women’s NCAA title in 2010. Among the many athletes he coached were Olympic stars Ryan Lochte, Caeleb Dressel and Elizabeth Beisel—all of whom achieved remarkable international success under his guidance.
On the world stage, few coaches match Troy’s accomplishments. He has coached more than 80 Olympians representing 23 countries and served in multiple Olympic roles, including head coach of the U.S. men’s team at the 2012 Games. His athletes have combined for more than 100 international medals.
He is also a member of the American Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame and has been named Coach of the Year by USA Swimming and ASCA.
Beyond medals and titles, Troy is revered for his relentless work ethic and ability to shape lives. As his athletes often attest, his coaching extends far beyond the pool, instilling discipline, resilience, and belief. Troy, and his wife, Kathleen, are the parents of three adult sons and four grandchildren.
Through a lifetime of dedication, Gregg Troy has produced countless champions and helped define coaching excellence.
