Jane Figueiredo has guided 13 Olympic medalists across multiple nations and decades. Her influence was first felt on the Olympic stage in 2000, when she coached Russia’s Yulia Pakhalina and Vera Ilyina to gold in the inaugural women’s 3-meter synchronized diving event. She continued to lead her athletes to success in subsequent Games, including multiple Olympic medals in 2004 and 2008.
In 2014, Figueiredo moved to London and played a pivotal role in Great Britain’s rise as a global diving power, guiding Tom Daley and his partners to Olympic medals in 2016, 2020, and 2024, highlighted by gold in the men’s 10-meter synchronized event in Tokyo. Her athletes have also achieved significant success at World Championships, earning numerous medals in individual, synchronized and mixed events.
In NCAA competition, Figueiredo was a Five-time NCAA Women’s Coach of the Year and multiple Conference USA Coach of the Year during her years at the University of Houston. Her divers have won Seven (7) Women’s NCAA Championship titles, and she has had multiple NCAA All-American divers. She spent 24 years in Houston and was inducted into the University of Houston Hall of Honors in 2010.
An Olympian herself, Figueiredo competed at the 1984 Games for Portugal before transitioning her career into coaching, where her passion and expertise flourished. Her contributions were recognized globally with the 2024 International Olympic Committee Lifetime Achievement Award. She is also a UK Member of the British Empire Nominee.
