Robert E. Kerper, Jr.

Bob Kerper’s book, Splash! Aquatic Shows from A to Z is a treasured reference book for producers of aquatic shows, patrons of aquatic shows and swimming buffs in general.

One month before his death at the age of 89 years, he completed his latest book Swimming Sprint Times that explains why swimming times keep getting faster and why swimming records continue to be broken.

Kerper is a two-time Pennsylvania State High School backstroke champion in 1941 and 1942, a national prep school champion at Mercersburg Academy in 1943 and a two-time Middle Atlantic States College champion and record holder in the backstroke and individual medley at West Chester University. In 1982 Bob won three medals, one gold and two silver in the National Masters Championship held at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been several times in the “Top Ten” in U.S. Masters Swimming. He is a 1985 “Distinguished Alumni” of West Chester University. As a U.S. Navy physical training instructor in World War II, Bob taught thousands of new recruits and officers to swim and survive in the water. He worked with the American Red Cross and YMCA as instructor/trainer and administrator; coached swimming and taught classes at his alma mater, the Mercersburg Academy; is an inductee in the WCU Sturzebecker Hall of Fame. Aditionally, Bob was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Sports Hall of Fame and the Berks County Swimming Hall of Fame. Bob turned 89 on February 22, 2013
