MARGERY MEYER 1922 – 2009
FORT LAUDERDALE – Following a long battle with pancreatic cancer, 2009 International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame Inductee Margery Meyer died on November 25, 2009. She was 87.
Margery loved the out-of-doors and later in life spent countless hours in the pool and at Masters meets competing in a total of five age groups 65-69 thru 85-89. She celebrated her 60th birthday at the base camp of Mount Everest and her 80th birthday riding the rapids of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.
During her 23 years of Masters swimming, she set 50 FINA Masters World Records with over 76 number one FINA World Rankings. Living most of her life in Carmel, California, she and daughter Marguerite, together were two of the first female members of the San Francisco Olympic Club’s swim team. She attended four FINA Masters World Championships winning 11 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Margery had many talents and lived her life to the fullest with her generosity, elegance, genuine sincerity and intellectual acuity.
