BOB MOWERSON  (USA)
1986 Honor Coach

FOR THE RECORD: Battle Creek Central High School: Coach; Michigan State University: Assistant Coach; University of Minnesota: Coach; 1971 Pan American Games: Coach; Coach/Organizer of swimming at the Colorado Springs National Sports Training Center; Secretary/Treasurer of College Coaches Association; Chairman of Fort Lauderdale College Swim Forum; Vice Chairman of the U.S. Olympic Swim Committee; Administrative Chairman of AAU Swimming; variety of administrative jobs with the YMCA Competitive Swimming Council.

Bob Mowerson was an NCAA and NAAU Champion at Michigan under Matt Man both before WWII and afterward, as the old man relays.  After graduation he coached Battle Creek Central High School which was generally considered the USA's number one high school team for 16 years.  He left Battle Creek to become assistant coach under Charlie McCaffree at Michigan State and was a contributor to the world class swimmers and American record relays there.  In 1963, when Bill Huesner left Minnesota to head the Human Energy Resources Lab at MSU, Mowerson replaced him at Minnesota where he coached national champions and record holders Steve Jackman, Wally Richardson and Virgil Lucken.

Mowerson was the 1971 US. Pan Am Coach.  His achievements in swimming administration are at least as outstanding as his coaching.  One of the first swimming camp men, he was the principal coach-organizer of swimming at the Colorado Springs National Sports Training Center.  He was long time Secretary/Treasurer of the College Coaches Association, Chairman of the Fort Lauderdale College Swim Forum, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Olympic Swim Committee and Administrative Chairman of AAU Swimming plus a variety of top administrative jobs with the YMCA Competitive Swimming Council.  No one man has had his foot, head, and certainly his heart in so many levels of swimming.
